Adult Day Program: Eastern Counties
One day a week can make all the difference...
Most people don't understand how stressful it can be looking after someone who has dementia - Carefor does understand.
Our Day Program provides a supportive "day away" for people living with dementia. Clients enjoy a day of activities designed to enhance their well-being, all while providing their caregivers with a day of respite.
Carefor staff have extensive experience caring for people with dementia. Supported by dedicated volunteers, program staff members work to ensure a safe and caring environment.
What happens during the day?
The Day Program promotes a sense of accomplishment, body awareness and positive self-esteem. The program structure is flexible and activities are tailored to the client's functional ability and interests.
Social time
The day typically begins with a snack and conversation about life experiences, current events and any topic of specific interest to the clients. Birthdays and special holidays are celebrated.

How do clients get to the program?
If caregivers are unable to drive their loved ones to and from the Day Program, Carefor will try to provide transportation.
Clients are usually picked up between 8:00 and 9:00am and are returned home between 2:45 and 3:30pm.
A family member or designate must be there to meet the client at the end of the day.
There is a daily transportation fee for both programs.
Can anyone attend the Day Program?
The Day Program is specifically for individuals living with dementia. To attend, a referral must be made by the Champlain Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).
For more information on determining an individual's eligibility to attend the program, contact the Champlain CCAC at 613-745-5525.
Student Placement & Volunteer Opportunities
Trained staff and volunteers work together at both of our Day Programs to provide a supportive, relaxed and engaging environment for all who visit.
Volunteers are an integral part of the team. They work with staff and clients by facilitating activities of daily living (i.e. personal grooming), assisting in meal preparation, providing accompaniment and supervision during outings and participating in a variety of activities (billiards, gardening, etc.).
We are looking for volunteers with a positive attitude who have the ability and desire to learn how to communicate and interact with individuals living with dementia.
