On Saturday, March 19th, 2011, 400 guests met for the sweetest fundraiser of the year at the Centurion Conference and Event Center in Ottawa. Over $35,000 was raised through the event, surpassing our goal of $30,000!
Starting at 10 a.m., guests were treated to a delectable brunch, live music, a silent and live auctions with items donated by local businesses, and finally the opportunity to vote on the establishment that makes Ottawa/Gatineau's BEST chocolate dessert. Take home containers were available to ensure everyone got the most out of the chocolate competition!
Each year, Carefor Health & Community Services invites up to 15 competitors to participate in the annual Carefor Chocolate Brunch & Competition fundraising event. Competitors range from small truffle shops, caterers and chocolatiers to large local restaurants, bakeries and hotels from the Ottawa and Gatineau regions.
The People's Choice Award and all of its associated benefits, goes to the establishment that gets the most votes from the attendees at the event. People's Choice Trophy (to place in their establishment for one year), a $500 cheque and the opportunity to advertise in Carefor's publications for one year. These publications reach approximately 15,000 local residents per year.
The Judges Choice Award is presented to the establishment who wins the hearts and tastebuds of five celebrity judges. In addition to bragging rights and promotion of their products, the Judges' Choice winner received the Carefor Chocolate Judges Choice Trophy (to place in their establishment for one year), a $500 cheque and the opportunity to advertise in Carefor's publications for one year.
