Champlain LHIN District (Pembroke, Ottawa and Eastern Counties) - May 1, 2017. The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Carefor Health & Community Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Steve Perry as the new Chief Executive Officer of Carefor Health & Community Services. Mr. Perry will take on the position as of August 21, 2017.

Mr. Perry started with the Victoria Order of Nurses in 1998 when he was hired as the Financial Director and was promoted to the Executive Director position in 2002. With the amalgamation of the Ottawa and Renfrew County VON offices in 2006, and eventual merger with Eastern Counties to become Carefor Health & Community Services, Mr. Perry became the Director of Operations, Pembroke-Renfrew County and has successfully filled that position for the last 11 years.

Reporting directly to the CEO of Carefor Health & Community Services, Mr. Perry is responsible for site operations and service delivery of assisted living, retirement care and specialized supportive housing at Carefor’s Civic Complex and Mackay Centre facilities in Pembroke, Ontario. He leads a multidisciplinary team of staff and over 300 volunteers to deliver community-based personal support and caregiver services such as foot care clinics, respite care, personal support services, nursing clinics, caregiver services, frozen meals on wheels and palliative end-of-life services. His portfolio also includes the development and implementation of the Champlain Community Transportation Network (CCTC) with Carefor as Lead Agency of the Champlain-wide non-urgent transportation program.

Mr. Perry achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ottawa University in 1992 and continued his journey of life-long learning studying financial accounting and business administration through the Certified General Accountants Association and Athabasca University. He has completed the LHIN Senior Leadership Program through Ottawa University/Rotman School of Management and is currently completing his Executive MBA – Innovation Leadership through the University of Fredericton-Sandermoen School of Business.

“We were always cognizant of the question: "What does Carefor need as CEO to lead us in the direction as outlined in our Strategic Plan?" We referred to the Key Responsibilities as outlined in the Position Profile and while all three finalists were very close we felt that we made the best choice for the organization in the long term with Mr. Perry” states Mrs. Glenna MacKenzie, Chair of the Board Carefor Health & Community Services.

On August 31, 2017, Mr. Bob Cerniuk Carefor’s current CEO, will be retiring after 16 years at Carefor’s helm. Mr. Cerniuk’s leadership has navigated Carefor through the creation of a new brand, expansion of programs and services throughout the Champlain LHIN, and has positioned Carefor to engage in numerous development opportunities for the future. Mr. Cerniuk will continue to lead Carefor for the next four months and will work to ensure a seamless transition.
