Volunteer at the Guest House-A home away from home   

The Guest House is a 12 bedroom bungalow located on the campus of the Perley- Rideau Veteran's Health Centre. It has been planned and designed to create a safe, homelike and supportive environment for persons in the early to mid-stage of dementia. The Guest House offers short and long-term, planned and emergency respite stays. 

VOLUNTEER ROLE

  • Facilitate guest participation in activities of daily living such as: Bed making, Tidying bedroom and common living space, Dusting, Other light household activities
  • Support and encourage guests to participate in leisure activities such as: Reminiscing, Current Events, Games, Trivia, Art & Music, Sing-alongs, Exercise, walks, Manicures, Special Events
  • Encourage guests involvement of meal preparation by: Cooking or baking, Table setting, Clean up, Assist preparing breakfast, snacks, desserts etc.

  • Ability to interact with individuals with dementia
  • Capable of working as a team member
  • Mature, reliable, flexible
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Positive attitude and a sense of humor
